Acorn Landscaping has worked out of Hampton since 1989. In more than 37 years we've built patios on Oshawa clay, held back slopes above the Ganaraska in Port Hope, planted for salt spray in south Ajax, and prepped hundreds of Brooklin new builds where the builder left compacted fill and a strip of sod.
That matters more than it sounds. A base depth that works in Uxbridge's sandy moraine soil is the wrong call in Courtice. A plant list that thrives inland gets burned on a Cobourg lakefront. Local knowledge isn't a marketing line for us — it's the difference between work that lasts and work you're repairing in five years.

Communities We Serve
Every community has its own page with local conditions, neighbourhoods and recent work.
Landscaping Oshawa
Home Base
Predominantly clay soil, flat terrain and relentless freeze-thaw cycles — which is exactly why base preparation matters here. Donevan, Eastdale, McLaughlin, Lakeview, O'Neill, Kedron, Windfields, Samac and Taunton.
Landscaping in Oshawa →Landscaping Whitby
Mature lots with big trees downtown, compacted construction soil in the newer end — two very different jobs. Downtown Whitby, Port Whitby, Pringle Creek, Williamsburg, Rolling Acres and Lynde Creek.
Landscaping in Whitby →Landscaping Ajax
Low-lying clay near the lake means moisture, wind and road-salt exposure — we choose materials and plants for it. South Ajax waterfront, Rossland, Nottingham, Carruthers Creek and north to Taunton Road.
Landscaping in Ajax →Landscaping Pickering
Established waterfront neighbourhoods in the south, heavy construction fill in the fast-growing north end. Rougemount, Amberlea, Liverpool, Dunbarton, Brock Ridge, Duffin Heights and Seaton.
Landscaping in Pickering →Landscaping Courtice
Heavy clay is the defining problem here — water pooling in low spots, grades running toward the house, lawns choking on compaction. Grading, French drains and soil amendment do most of the work.
Landscaping in Courtice →Landscaping Brooklin
New builds arrive with thin topsoil and compacted fill, and spring runs a week or two behind the lakeshore. The village core, Winchester, Coronation and the north Whitby subdivisions.
Landscaping in Brooklin →Landscaping Bowmanville
Heritage streets with mature root systems to work around, and fresh ground north of Highway 2. The historic downtown, Liberty Village, the Green Road corridor and Northglen.
Landscaping in Bowmanville →Landscaping Cobourg
Century homes that need heritage-appropriate stonework, and lakefront properties dealing with salt, humidity and exposure. The downtown core, east end, waterfront and north of the 401.
Landscaping in Cobourg →Landscaping Port Hope
The Ganaraska valley creates real microclimates — damp and cool below, dry and exposed above. Victorian downtown, the riverside, the west end, newer developments and surrounding rural properties.
Landscaping in Port Hope →Landscaping Port Perry
Bigger properties than most of Durham — rural acreage, horse farms and Lake Scugog waterfront where shoreline stabilization and moisture-tolerant planting matter. Town centre and all of Scugog Township.
Landscaping in Port Perry →Landscaping Uxbridge
Oak Ridges Moraine sandy loam drains fast and dries out quickly, and the rolling terrain hands you natural grade changes worth designing around. Town centre, rural lots and conservation-adjacent properties.
Landscaping in Uxbridge →Landscaping Durham Region
The regional overview — every community we cover, the soil and climate conditions that shape work across Durham, and the full range of services in one place.
Landscaping across Durham Region →Four Ground Conditions That Change the Job
Durham Region isn't one landscape. These are the four situations we're building for, and the community usually tells us which one we're walking into.
Heavy Clay
Oshawa, Courtice and much of Ajax. Slow-draining and quick to compact. Grading, drainage and a deep, properly compacted base do more for the finished job than anything you can see.
Lakefront Exposure
South Ajax, Port Whitby, the Cobourg shoreline and Lake Scugog. Salt, wind, humidity and shoreline movement. Material and plant selection carries the weight here.
New-Build Fill
Brooklin, north Pickering, Seaton, Northglen and the newer Whitby subdivisions. The builder's sod strip is sitting on compacted fill. It needs tilling, amending and grading before anything will thrive.
Heritage & Rural Lots
Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Port Perry and Uxbridge. Mature root systems, century architecture and acreage. The work has to look like it was always there.

Frequently Asked Questions
My town isn't listed — do you still come out?
Often, yes. The communities above are where we work most, but we regularly take on projects in surrounding townships and rural properties between them. Call us with your address and we'll tell you straight away.
Do you charge extra for the communities further out?
No travel surcharge. Cobourg, Port Hope, Port Perry and Uxbridge are part of our regular route. Anything that affects pricing is in the written quote before work starts.
Is snow and ice service available everywhere you landscape?
Winter routes are tighter than summer ones, and seasonal contracts are booked before the first snowfall. Ask early — especially if you're at the outer edge of the map.
Do you take commercial properties, or residential only?
Both. Residential landscaping is the bulk of our work, and we handle commercial grounds and snow and ice management across the same service area, with priority response for commercial sites in winter.
How soon can someone come look at my property?
It depends on the season — spring is our busiest stretch by a wide margin. Call or send us a message and we'll book a site visit for the first realistic date rather than a date we can't hold.
Find Out What Your Property Needs
Tell us where you are and what you have in mind. We'll come out, walk the property, and give you an honest plan and a written quote.
